Las Vegas (Tacotarian) Local Taco Shop Wins Nevada’s 2025 Small Business Persons of the Year Award

Las Vegas is known for its high-stakes business ventures, world-class dining, and relentless pursuit of innovation. But in a city where restaurants come and go at lightning speed, few small businesses manage to break through and truly leave a mark. This year, one local eatery has done just that.

Tacotarian, the plant-based taco shop that has been redefining Mexican street food since 2018, has just been named Nevada’s Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

The recognition goes to the restaurant’s four co-founders—Kristen Corral, Carlos Corral, Regina Simmons, and Dan Simmons—who have turned their vision into one of the most talked-about food brands in the state.

Each year, the SBA honors entrepreneurs who have demonstrated exceptional growth, leadership, and community impact. The winners, representing all 53 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam, will be celebrated in Washington, D.C., during National Small Business Week in May. One will go on to receive the National Small Business Person of the Year title, but for Tacotarian, this moment is already a major victory.

From a Single Shop to a Regional Sensation

When Tacotarian first opened its doors, the idea of a fully plant-based taco shop in Las Vegas was a gamble. In a city dominated by steakhouses, all-you-can-eat buffets, and celebrity chef-driven restaurants, would people embrace tacos without meat?

The answer was a resounding yes.

What started as a single location has since expanded into multiple spots across Las Vegas, with an additional outpost in San Diego. Tacotarian has not only attracted devoted vegans but has also won over traditional taco lovers with its bold flavors and inventive approach to Mexican cuisine.

Their menu offers everything from al pastor-style jackfruit tacos to birria-style mushrooms, all crafted to mimic the depth and richness of traditional meat-based recipes. But it’s not just the food that sets Tacotarian apart—it’s the company’s larger mission.

“Winning the SBA Small Business Persons of the Year award for Nevada is an incredible honor and a testament to the hard work, passion, and resilience it takes to run a small business today,” the founders said in a statement.

That resilience has been tested in recent years. The restaurant industry has been hit hard by rising costs, supply chain disruptions, and workforce shortages. Yet, through strategic growth and an unwavering commitment to quality, Tacotarian has not just survived but flourished.

More Than Just Tacos

Tacotarian has built its reputation not only on great food but also on a strong sense of community. The founders have been vocal advocates for small businesses, sustainable food systems, and social justice.

Their commitment to giving back is evident in their partnerships with local nonprofits, including Nevada SPCA, Reps and Steps, Foundation for Recovery, Foster Kinship, and Farm Animal Sanctuary. Through donations, sponsorships, and hands-on involvement, Tacotarian continues to make an impact far beyond the walls of their restaurants.

“In an era where small businesses face more challenges than ever—from rising costs to workforce shortages—this recognition reinforces the importance of perseverance, innovation, and community support,” the team shared. “We are proud to represent Nevada on the national stage and will continue our mission to grow, create jobs, and make a lasting impact in our industry and beyond.”

This philosophy is deeply embedded in their company culture. Employees are encouraged to take part in local activism, and the restaurant regularly hosts community events aimed at supporting local artists, entrepreneurs, and organizations.

The Road Ahead

With this latest recognition, Tacotarian finds itself at a pivotal moment. As they prepare for the SBA’s national competition in May, they’re also setting their sights on future expansion. More locations could be on the horizon, along with new menu innovations that continue to push the boundaries of plant-based cuisine.

But for the founders, growth is about more than just scaling the business—it’s about staying true to their mission. Their goal remains the same: “bringing positive change to the world, one taco at a time.”

Winning the SBA Small Business Persons of the Year award is a validation of their hard work, but it’s also a reminder of how far they’ve come. From a single taco shop with a bold vision to a regional success story, Tacotarian has proven that small businesses can create big waves.

And if history is any indicator, this is just the beginning.
